Like a complete dumbass, I took a phone call at about 4:45est with 2 trades open. Forget what I was doing, lost track of time, walked past my server to see the quotes frozen at 23:59. Here's the positions if any of you want to track my pain.

BOT 1.0 GPBCHF @ 1.75937
SOLD 1.0 EURCHF @ 1.57475

I guess my only hope is since the swissy is the counter-currency on both positions and they're straddled, if it gaps they'll both move together. I can't effin' believe I did this.

I did some looking back and see these two isssues are usually pretty tame close to open. If this were the EURUSD I'd be pissing my pants.

I am currently working towards writing a script to help us, Friday traders, automatically shut down the EA + Close all open orders at 5 minutes before the close of the trading week.

If anyone else has MQL4 or C++ DLL programming experience, I'd love to get together and exchange ideas. Send me a message.

Thats what I did except I shut down shop at 1:30pm, I was experimenting with trades today. Was also trying to get scalper to work today on Friday a little but it made no trades even though the setting was on.

Well I can join you in the 'bonehead club'. My broker changed my leverage, didnt tell me and I happened to change the lot size on eur/jpy to 1 same day thinking absentmindedly that it was still at 10,000.00........NOT! it was 100,000.00 and I did a loss which equated to $700 odd before I realised and closed before more damage. Still working towards getting that back. Maybe moral of story......watch that damn norty child!

Hoppy, that is not changing the leverage it is changing your account from Mini to Standard ie: lot sizes 10,000 to 100,000 so if this is a live account you should make a complaint...

oops.

I have an account with Oanda, who trade throughout the weekend and you can place trades. If i had accidentally left a trade open with a broker who wasn't open i would hedge it there. If you carry on trading on Fridays might be worth having another account to hedge like this just incase. Infact, having a second account is helpful for hedging on other occasions too... like, if for some reason the brokers server goes down, unable to close a trade, or whatever.

I doubt if complaining would do anything other than "sorry, YOU pushed the wrong button" Should remember that old saying of 'twice check then do". I am just going to trundle on up (hopefully) and get it back. I might take on the suggestion below to have another broker. Sounds sensible in many ways. Just hate the thought of the $ exchange at the moment. Also the deposits and withdrawal hassels. I rather like a simple life, but maybe I oughto change that outlook.?

Keep things simple- it is the best way. Just make sure you have a more complicated back up plan incase the simple one has a bad day :)

Thank you, that's good information to have. The spreads are miserable but a so-so loss right away might be better than an unkown loss on a Sunday night. Like I said earlier, thankfully FAP left me straddled on the Swissy so I'll probably survive this one. But it's a valuable lesson learned either way.

The GBPCHF actually gapped down a lil bit on market open and I thought I was screwed. But by the time I closed the other trade and stared at it for a few second it had moved into the plus. I was actually expecting a 1 win/1 lose with the straddled CHF, but I'll take what I can get. This was still so damned stupid to do I'm kicking myself. I was sick to my stomach over it since Friday afternoon.
