Can I install MT4 more than once on the same computer without messing my existing MT4 installation up ?

to install multiple instances of MT4, install it in a different folder every time you want to add an instance.
eg. :
“C:\Program Files\Interbank FX Trader 4\terminal.exe”
“C:\Program Files\Interbank FX Trader 4.1\terminal.exe”
“C:\Program Files\Interbank FX Trader 4.2\terminal.exe”
“C:\Program Files\Interbank FX Trader 4.3\terminal.exe”
this will give you 4 instances… but you will only have 1 icon on your desktop. you will then need to duplicate the icon and specify in each the new path to each instance.

yes you can install more that 1 instance. Just put it in another directory as explained by "tobyjensen"
I have currently running 8 diff. MT4 on same PC.
I have about 12, with 11 of them running at once. 1 install is dedicated for backtesting only.

Can Metatrader work under Linux?
Not natively. You can get it to work with emulation software such as WINE (http://www.winehq.org/)
Then again you can always run windows inside linux via VMWare.
There is another person here on the forum that has MT4 installed under linux. I believe this is the pertinent thread:

May I ask to this thread, "How is having multiple platforms running simultaneousely beneficial, except to trade multiple accounts? I find it hard to think of having a bunch of different brokers and live or practice accounts going all together.
Please, someone set my thinking straight on this one!
It's only beneficial for trading multiple account and testing multiple trading strategies or expert advisors at the same time.

I have several demo accounts from different brokers that I use to test EA's. EA's trade differently on different brokers, different trades, different profits and losses, etc. Also if you have a demo account and a live account from the same broker and want to run them both at the same time. Thats were I'm at now. Also, when testing certain EA's, with money managment protocals, it helps to have them on dedicated accounts.
