Trouble downloading history??

Hi everyone, this is my first post, I have been lurking for about a week. This forum has been really helpful, Thanks Earl, Alan, mystikdragon7, ^eagle^ and everyone else who contributes. I was pretty disappointed when I first bought the FAP back in August. I used it on demo for a couple of weeks on default settings and made a profit so I decided to use it live (on Black Monday in Sep, :mad:)

A volatile market coupled with my total disregard of money management (and the fact that the EA kept making buy orders at all time highs!) and I managed to blow that account up in short order. I have spent over a month learning at least the basics of manual trading and am ready to give the FAP another go, just not on the default settings.

I want to use my time this weekend to backtest but am running into a problem.

Here are the steps I am taking:


Tools>>> Options>>> Charts>>> Change both max bars to 999999999>>> History Center>>> EURUSD>>> M1>>> Download

When I click on download it says there is no new data and only shows data in the window from the time I have actually had MT4 running. What gives?

Here is how I understand how to complete the process once I am able to download the historical data:

Attach EA to chart>>> Strategy Tester>>> Set parameters, currency and timeframe

Any idea why I am unable to download the history? I am using a live mini IBFX account, do I need to use a demo?

Ok, got it working now, not sure what the deal was. (I guess all the data really was there?) I went ahead and switched over to a demo account, not sure if it was necessary though. I am off to backtesting now!!!

I just ran my first backtest. It was supposed to be from 1-1-2007 until present but it is only showing results since september of this year.... which means that I do need to download the historical data.

But when I attempt to do so, I am told that there is no new data. So I now repose my original question from above. Any ideas??

I am getting the same thing with the date results from July on.

Does some one Know how to fix this?

Ok, here's what I had to do to correct the issue, finally got it working though.

I downloaded another MT4 platform with no prior history and am dedicating it solely to backtests and demo testing. The history downloaded fine. Let me know if it doesn't work.

You will have to load all of your EAs and indicators for this new platform as well. Be sure and change the install location to "whateverdefaultlocationis-demo" or something similar, otherwise you will overwrite your current MT4.
