running the MT4 strategy tester

I cannot get the strategy tester to work.

I put the EA on my chart and open it
I downloaded eur/usd M1 from history center. I set all the parameters and check the boxes.
I set the dates i want to test

Then I push start and it does a quick run through and the squeaky toy noise and I get no results
No data
Zip
zero

NOTHING!

Check your Journal for possible error messages. The most common one I run into is the "invalid activation key" error message.

Btw, you don't need to open a chart or attach the EA to it in order to backtest.

It may help to attach some screenshots of what you're exactly doing.

Hi there,

how does one get passed the invalid activation key? I'm using a valid activation key... I double checked by clicking on the smiling face on the chart, choosing prefrences, and validating the key value is set to what I entered (and got from the key generator in my membership area of FAP.)

I also made sure that the tools/options was set to allow DLL's.

Is there something else that needs to be done to fix the invalid key problem?

make sure you have a valid key in the tester where you put in the info from the expert properties in the tester section...once you put your key in there close meta trader and reopen..tada!!! works...or at least it should


hey do back test ever give bad results?????

my never seems to...I should be rich now...thats what it shows me...lol

Same here. I do get some pretty large losses even on backtesting but in the end if left alone the EA recovers and comes out in profit.

has anyond some killer settings back testing???

remember when I said to add more than one trade...DON'T
everything you change from the the recommended setting changes the out come...

even the lot size changes the out come...

testing a whole year or just a month..changes the out come

I've stopped trading...because no matter what I put in a backtest it comes out poop...LOL or really no worth the bother
