I'd also like to help with optimization, but like madpoet I a not sur how to do it properly. I know how to do it in metatrader its just that I am not sur how I should do it.
For example, which dates should I do this on? Which settings? In what order?

Here is the update to Project EA. IMPORTANT! Please rename the program. If you don’t know how, ask someone before you use it. I’m just a little paranoid about the brokers screwing with this one. They can reek havoc with a trade with error 128 TimeOuts, especially if you are a scalper.
Issues addressed:
4 & 5 digit brokers – enabled but not tested.
Hard closing orders (not by stops) with error checking
Modifying orders with error checking
Pivot filtering – creates a trade zone in between the Monthly, Weekly and Daily S/R levels. The trade zone can be adjusted by setting the Min/Max for the Pivot level.
Also, if you change the MaxOrders to zero no more orders will be made but the program’s ability to Close and Modify or TrailingStop will still function.
This is not optimized, as a matter of fact, the default levels are set to trade sort-a-like FAP.
Oh Ya - I've updated the front page. Enjoy!
:cool:
Zanwonton, Just a thanks to you and I wanted you to know that I've been running Project_EA3_rev6 since whenever you published it and had great results so far. I never bothered to go back and use your updated version 4.
So far I've turned my account that FAP (old) blew up, from $95 to $235 using Project EA trading only the USD/CAD and USD/CHF pairs, and FAP to trade the EUR/USD (kept on a very short leash), and FAP TURBO trading the EUR/CHF and EUR/GBP pairs. So far so good. Looking forward to trying your updated version.

Thanks Zan for the great work. Just a quick question:
"Hard closing orders (not by stops) with error checking"
Does this mean the EA can be run with no stop loss? That the EA will close the orders automatically?
"Modifying orders with error checking"
Again, does this affect how the orders are placed or closed?
thanks again...

I'd like to help with Optimization efforts but to be honest I don't entirely understand how ;) Is there a quick and dirty guide?
Well you can run back tests. Also try reading some of the threads in this forum on back testing to get a feel of what goes on.

Unfortunately, I’m trying to make this EA flexible for the user and so there are quite a few settings. I suggest that you start with the default settings and then test the small changes, which you make, through back testing.
I can’t make any promises, but I’ll try to put together a quick explanation of the settings in the near future.

A quick list explanation of each setting would be very helpful indeed Zan, looking forward to seeing it...soon. :cool:

Any thoughts on a MACD filter for H1 trading?
-obviously it could be used on any time frame- I changed the internal alligator settings to try and replicate--probably won't work though...
I tried, but something isn't correct...
P.S. I renamed mine--Winner Winner Chicken Dinner...lol...

Well, I have been dreaming of MAs and I am working on something that uses the crossing of two MAs to place and close orders.
Just a preview of what is coming next –
The MATrader. What I was talking about in above.
Being able to turn off Fractals, I should of all ready of done this.
For the Manual Trader - Print TradeSignal info on the chart and be able to turn off and on CloseOrder or OpenOrder.
E-Mail Trade log info, placed or closed orders, and error Alerts every xx minutes. If you do it as they happen, it could get overwhelming.
Right now, I’m actually nervously satisfied with the MoJo version. I’ve uploaded my set file for an example of settings for TripFlag on M1 chart. Also, if anyone is getting the error alerts, keep in mind that the EA does try to correct those problems automaticly.
One more thing - has anyone tried this Ver on a 5 digit broker yet?

Here is a quick guide to help you trade with Project EA.
1) Don’t set up more than one EA per account. The problem comes when more than one EA tries to select an order. Only one will, the rest will keep going. When timing is everything, this can be a big problem. This does apply to Project EA, FAP and probably to FAPTurbo as well.
2) This is only a suggestion but it might be wise to rename the EA to your own private and personalized name. Just right click the name.ex4 file select rename and there you go.
3) There are three ways to close an order with Project EA; TakeProfit, TripFlag and TrailingStop.
Now to the good stuff.
1) Lots – How much of a particular currency you plan to trade. I trade USD and on the EURUSD Lots of .1 = 1.00 per pip. Lots of .4 would equal 4.00 and so on.
2) LotsRiskReducer or LRR– Well there is a complexed mathematical formula behind this that tends to be relative to several factors. The best thing is to keep in mind that you need to set your Lots to zero and adjust LRR to how soon you want your Lots to increase. For example, with LRR set to 3 your Lots should increases from .1 to .2 when your balance goes over 5000. With a higher LRR you can expect Lots to increase to .2, lets say 3000.
3) MaxOrders – How many orders you would like to have open at any given time.
4) MaxLots – This should be right next to LRR. This limit how far you will let the LRR increase your Lots.
5) StopTime or ST– This should be right next to MaxOrders. The minimum amount of time, in minutes, that needs to pass before the EA is allowed to open another trade.
6) TakeProfit or TP– This sets up pre trade command on the server to close the order if a certain level is reached. For example, the EA opens an order xxxx with a TP of 15. Just after the trade took place, you loose power at your home, the computer is off. Well several hours goes by then finally the power goes back on and you finally get to check on order xxxx. The order did go positive and the server closed it at 15. Your computer was not needed to close the trade.
7) TripFlag – The TripFlag is a trade signal generated in the EA and performs a hard close. The logic – when price exceeds TripLevel, the EA will close the order when it detects the first reversal in direction of price. The trade is considered a hard close because, unlike TakeProfit, your computer is needed to close the order. All ways set a TP when using TripFlag!!!
8) TripLevel – The minimum amount of profit you want to take. Used when TripFlag is set to True.
9) StopLoss or SL- like TP; This sets up pre trade command on the server to close the order if a certain level is reached. Except this level is for losses instead of profits. Also, your computer is not needed for the trade to close.
10) TrailingStop or TS– What happens with TS is that it will adjust your SL as your order goes into profit. The TS continues to adjust the SL to follow the price, by the value that you place in the TS, as long as the price continues to rise. When the price falls, the SL stays stationary and the order will close on the server side when price equals SL. Your computer is needed to adjust the SL but not to close the order. Setting TS to zero will disable TS.
11) EA On Times – this is the time that you see at the bottom of your chart. Don’t worry about GMT.
12) I’m going to skip the Indicators for right now – but you should know that they are used for entry point of a trade.
13) Pivot Filter- The best way to get a grip on the pivot is to open a chart and load up the AutoPivot indicator. Set Daily S/R and Weekly S/R to False and Monthly S/R to True on the indicator. Trading can only occur when the price falls in-between (the Min and Max levels of DayZone or WeekZone) or (Monthly S1 and R1 levels). DayZone is good if you plan on keeping an eye on your trades. The WeekZone is proving so far to be a great tool to block out wild market fluctuations. The Monthly is sort-a the out of bounds limit, when the market swings way out of control. Just keep in mind that all of these will cut down on the amount of trading, at some point, that the EA will do.
Zan,
I've been using mojo since it's release (I'm using totally different settings though)
Thanks for explaining the autopivot filter, I actually trade manually using pivots, and so far MACD, PIVOT and RSI have worked best for me.
The last couple of days are prime examples of why the pivot filter would aid trading on the eur/usd --currently I have to set up my SG (hedge trader) based on the difference of R1/S1, R2/S2, so maybe I'll be able to lax that a bit, and increase the trades in the zone :)
Against the rules- I have two EA's (but the same) set up on different charts for EUR/USD--different strategies for different times--
If you have a sec, can you check out the EA I posted-- I added the MACD filter but I get one stupid error when I try to compile it.
I use the 1M MACD to close and the 5M to open. This system is so simple I'm suprised it's not an EA. IIRC its called 1HR trend or something on forexfactory.
I'm thinking if I can get the MACD filter working, and combine it with the RSI you all ready instilled, I can attach to the 5M chart and with your trip flag have a minimum 6 pip scalper with a ten pip stop loss. Probably won't work...

Well, I have to say that was a nice effort but unfortunately there is a problem in this part of the code.
bool MACDFilter()
{
MACDFilter = False; change to MACDLong=False;
MACDFilter = False; change to MACDShort=False;
if(MACD > MACDHigh) MACDLong = True;
if(MACD < MACDLow) MACDShort = True;
return;
}
Alright, its fix but it will not work properly. So really what do we want it to do?
It seems you would like it to trade on the cross right?
First when you call iMACD
MACD = iMACD(NULL, 0, MACDPeriod, 0, 0);
You’re not going to get what you want. This is from the help file of MetaEditor
double iMACD(string symbol, int timeframe, int fast_ema_period, int slow_ema_period, int signal_period, int applied_price, int mode, int shift)
Calculates the Moving averages convergence/divergence and returns its value. In the systems where OsMA is called MACD Histogram, this indicator is displayed as two lines. In the Client Terminal, the Moving Average Convergence/Divergence is drawn as a histogram.
Parameters:
symbol - Symbol the data of which should be used to calculate indicator. NULL means the current symbol.
timeframe - Timeframe. It can be any of Timeframe enumeration values. 0 means the current chart timeframe.
fast_ema_period - Number of periods for fast moving average calculation.
slow_ema_period - Number of periods for slow moving average calculation.
signal_period - Number of periods for signal moving average calculation.
applied_price - Applied price. It can be any of Applied price enumeration values.
mode - Indicator line index. It can be any of the Indicators line identifiers enumeration value.
shift - Index of the value taken from the indicator buffer (shift relative to the current bar the given amount of periods ago).
Sample:
if(iMACD(NULL,0,12,26,9,PRICE_CLOSE,MODE_MAIN,0)>iMACD(NULL,0,12,26,9,PRICE_CLOSE,MODE_SIGNAL,0)) return(0);
Also, we need this bit of information as well from the help file
Constant ............Value.......Description
MODE_MAIN,,,,,,,,,,,,0..........Base indicator line.
MODE_SIGNAL.........1..........Signal line.
OK, so lets take a look at something working and borrow from it.
Open up the Macd Cross.mq4 and take a look at it.
This part could be used in the PrepareIndicators()
double macdMain0 = iMACD(NULL, 0, fastEma, slowEma, macdSma, PRICE_CLOSE, MODE_MAIN, i);
double macdMain2 = iMACD(NULL, 0, fastEma, slowEma, macdSma, PRICE_CLOSE, MODE_MAIN, i+1);
double macdSignal0 = iMACD(NULL, 0, fastEma, slowEma, macdSma, PRICE_CLOSE, MODE_SIGNAL, i);
double macdSignal2 = iMACD(NULL, 0, fastEma, slowEma, macdSma, PRICE_CLOSE, MODE_SIGNAL, i+1);
This part colud be used in the MACDFilter()
if (macdMain0 > macdSignal0 && macdMain2 < macdSignal2)
ExtMapBuffer1[i] = iLow(NULL, 0, i+1);
if (macdMain0 < macdSignal0 && macdMain2 > macdSignal2)
ExtMapBuffer2[i] = iHigh(NULL, 0, i+1);
Of course some analysis will need to take place before you can correctly program the cross signal of the MACD.
Well, this is as far as I can go for right now. Give it a shot and let me know what your results are.
Good luck jefe

Hi,Zanwonton.Just to make sure I get it right.If I want to enable pivot filtering on weekly basis I must do following :
load autopivot indicator to same chart I run EA on ,
set in indicator settings
Daily SR levels=false,
Weekly SR levels=true and
monthly SR levels=false,rest default.
Set in EA's settings
Use month SR=false
Use weekzone=true
Use DayZone=false.
Everything's right?Maybe it will be better to enable both weekly and monthly filtering?

Loading the indicator on the chart is not needed for it to work. It just helps you visualize what is going on. In a mathematical description Max = WeekPivot + WeekMax , Min = WeekPivot + WeekMin. But you are correct about the settings, just set the UseWeekZone to True and it will be enabled. Then you can adjust the zone to your liking.

Just use the .ex4 file--the first file. Don't forget to rename it, I renamed mine---WWCD (winner winner chicken dinner :)
The .mq4 is for messing with the code-- the other two are indicators/tools to learn to use.
Also, I attached a preset file that is pretty basic but gives decent results. It's set up to run on IBFX(GMT) time frame(but the llr is set to min for new users).

EUR/USD M1 and enable the daily Pivot filter (make true)(I haven't tried that out yet but I could have used it this am) this weeks been crazy..crazy...
I'm still working on my best... GMT time 21-5 has been pretty good, I have another preset that hasn't lost this week during that time frame (still working on it though- and it has an SL around 30) If it makes it through the rest of tonight with out a loss - It'll be a decent contender for higher LLR's.
But right now I'm working on getting this MACD cross over in place.

I like using a stop time of 20 for 1-3 trades.

But the stop loss is not seems to function.

But I don't think either tripflag or stoploss is functioning.

What pairs and what time frame are you running it on, also what broker. What hours is it set to trade etc. This is all pertinent information to help everyone determine why those disaster trades might have occured.

I can't say this week has been a stellar week for this EA-- I suspect its because we are trading a newer range on eur/usd - if your using the pivot feature--there won't be many trades. I've been manually trading for most of this week (and last) with mixed results

This is a great thread! Thanks to all involved.
I use it on a live accts, but I checked and I'm still on ea3 rev 5. You really have use min lot size--so far the last two months haven't been that great, I use a hedging program and it seems to help--but 10% per month is about all I can squeeze from it... (and you'll get great variance within that month like 40-200% per week)
Almost forgot, I have IFBX so I got a FAPT refund-- right now I'm not willing to put anymore coin into forex, just to open a new acct with a different broker.

I use IBFX as well. Does FAPT not work with that broker? Why would you have to open another account to use it? I apologize for all the ????, I am new at using EAs. I also wanted to share a thread that you may be interested in if you trade manually. This guy created a template that works great IF you follow the rules strictly (80%) winners. Trust me though, if you break the rules it will cost you! Go to http://www.forexfactory.com/showthread.php?t=127271 to check it out. Still interested in your settings on your EA and the skinny on FAPT.
Thanks again jefe!
Thanks. If you have time, and you don't mind, what settings are you using and what is a hedging program? Thanks again.
The hedging program is called SAFEGUARD there is thread with it in the fapt section under "fapt longterm" But you have to keep on your toes-- because it's not a good idea to start hedging 2 or 3 trades at -300 pips...
The .set file I posted will work on the ea3 rev 5, it should be pretty close. I have another one I'm testing--only one loss in the last 10 days with a SL of 30. It still needs more testing though it takes about 8 trades to recover from the one loss, not good enough for what I'm looking for. (and its set at 8%--I want to run closer to 20% like some other EA's on a lower spread pair)

I’m running EA3_Rev6 with Maxfactor’s settings on FXDD and a stoploss set to zero.
I can see you’re saying there’s no stoploss in post #99 question #7, but I have a trade stopped at -145 pips.($ -1,305.00) What is stopping this trade if it’s not the stoploss? It’s not at the end of the month (17.02.2009) and we haven’t run out of money, so it not a margincall.
Right now I have a floating trade higher than -145 pips ($ -2,754.00). Why is it not closed?
What can cause a bad floating trade to be executed?

Not sure about EA3_Rev6 but the stoploss doesn't work on the latest version which is a pity. The latest version is very successfull between hours where there is no news events however the drawdown can be quite heavy at times.
On five minute timefrime I feel you should not have a stoploss of more than 50-70 pips on EUR/USD and not more than 20 pips on 1 min. If Zwan can fix this I will do another optimization and review the results and forward test from that point onwards

I have a question for you guys. I am running EA3 Rev 6. I have been very happy with its performance. I am using a trailing stop of 30 pips. My question is this: Is the trailing stop supposed to kick in with profit reaches 30 pips and then run from there? My trailing stop is not kicking in sometimes and I am not sure why. I have been getting a lot of logins so that may be the culprit. They are usually only a few seconds or so before they log back in. If I am not logged in the first time it reaches the point were the trailing stop is supposed to trigger does it just void the trail?

Also, if you change the MaxOrders to zero no more orders will be made but the program’s ability to Close and Modify or TrailingStop will still function.
This is not optimized, as a matter of fact, the default levels are set to trade sort-a-like FAP.
Oh Ya - Enjoy!

Guys,
I'm a newbie and a little confused.
Is the Project_Mojo to be added to the chart as an EA instead of the Fapturbo I have?
Also, can you provide a complete settings rundown so I can be sure I'm testing with the correct settings.
Thx

Hi Zan,
Thank you for all the hard work you are putting into this little monter of a robot :-)
I have a question though.
"Project_EA3_rev6" is dealing over weekends with some huge loss and it seems there is no stop loss. Is that fixed in the Mojo version?

Just tried the Mojo robot with Interbank FX and Wow!! that doesn't work at all. The MT4 software breaks down just like when you get "blue screen of dead" in Windows XP.
It seems to work fine with Alpari UK though.

Hi JPx2,
Yes, just add Project_Mojo to a chart just like you did with Fapturbo.

I don't know what has happened with this EA. I started having bad results with it. It was going great for quite a while. And I was trading live with it. Also, I havent seen any responses from the creator lately. (Zanwonton)
