View Full Version : Coder’s Unite for a better EA

UPDATE Feb-5-2009
Here is the update to Project EA. IMPORTANT! Please rename the program. If you don’t know how, ask someone before you use it. I’m just a little paranoid about the brokers screwing with this one. They can reek havoc with a trade with error 128 TimeOuts, especially if you are a scalper.
Issues addressed:
4 & 5 digit brokers – enabled but not tested.
Hard closing orders (not by stops) with error checking
Modifying orders with error checking
Pivot filtering – creates a trade zone in between the Monthly, Weekly and Daily S/R levels. The trade zone can be adjusted by setting the Min/Max for the Pivot level.
Also, if you change the MaxOrders to zero no more orders will be made but the program’s ability to Close and Modify or TrailingStop will still function.
This is not optimized, as a matter of fact, the default levels are set to trade sort-a-like FAP.
Oh Ya - Enjoy!
:cool:
Hi Zanwonton, thanks for sharing your talents. Although I am no coder I will be glad to assist in demo testing/backtesting your EAs.
I've been thinking of starting another forum dedicated soley to forex. I think it would be a better idea and keep things clean, this way we keep this forum specifically dedicated to the forex autopilot family of trading systems.

That is ASTOUNDING.
If Metatrader 4 is generally not paired up with ECN, personally I wouldnt mind scalping with FAPTurbo on an ECN broker but I'd really like to see someone code an awesome EA for use with an ECN enablerd broker like fastbrokerfx or whomever ppl think is best...
What do you think?

Hi there.
Firstly let me say thanks for a great site! I have been reading this intensely for tor the last month, so it's high time I registered and said hello.
Alam - yes I think it would be great to have a dedicated site or part of this site that deals with custom EA development. I took the plunge the other day and contacted a couple of developers. Getting a robot developed is not expensive and I think that there are enough knowledgable people on this Forum to make something good.
I also think it would be useful to have a section of the site where users can upload their settings for FAP / FAPTS. This could be in a table with things like broker used, profitable (1 - 5 stars), starting bank and a link with the settings used. You could have organize the table by profitability, risk, stars, etc. I think this would make the site easier to use and would cut down on a lot of repetition.
Other than that great work.
One last thing - is there any more news on the EA on this thread?

Good idea - I like it.
I'd like to report that I'm making progress on the new forum. I've got the domain and forum software all setup. I just gotta find a spiffy theme and setup some site support ads and the forum will be ready for primetime.
to baboon: I believe due to the technical limitations of the forum software we can't have a table as you described. I'll try to find a way to better organize and separate backtests from regular posts.

BETA - Use at your own RISK!!!!
OK, this one has a some new settings
aat = chart in minutes 1, 5, 15, 60 and so on.
bbt= same as aat
Tripstop = use this along with TP. For example, set your TP for 10 and Tripstop for 5. Then when the price spikes above 5 but does not reach 10 and then reverses, the tripstop will close the order.
Note: I use FXDD, if you set the Tripstop below 4 the close order will not go through. Other brokers may be different?
Edit: For FXDD, I do set my Tripstop to 5 to make sure it will go through.
Suggested other settings:
aaa 13
aat 5
bbb 14
bbt 1
TakeProfit 15
Tripstop 5
MAPeriod 21

Nice work Zan, I will fire this up on my demo account when I get home tonight!

One thing Zan, can you make it that the Trip stop will follow along the trade as it increases? Like a trailing stop but not quite.
So Tripstop of 5 and TP of 20:
When then trade is 6 pips up it will lock in 5, if it then gets to 11 pips up it will lock in 10 and so on and so forth.
(My idea would be to have a TP of like 40 and have the Tripstop kick in at 15 pips, then increase by 5 everytime it goes 5 pips in profit.)
I like lorddave's idea... My last three bad faps positions wouldn't exist if a small TS was in place... I might not get as big profits, but reducing exposure on those double reversing candlesticks would be nicer...
By trip stop are you referring to it as the same the current trailing stop in FAPS?
I just increased my Trailing Stop to 5 (on FXDD) to see if it'll work...it wasn't working at 1.5...
Trailing stops lower than 15 pips do NOT work - it's a limitation of the MT4 platform.

OK, it’s on my todo list but keep in mind I don’t have a lot of time for programming, especially around the holidays. What you suggest is doable but will take some coding to do. Right now, I’m just doing quick and dirty but it’s a good suggestion.

Well, I chose a bad thing to call it. No, the TripStop is nothing like a trailing stop. The TripStop is for maximizing a scalp not minimizing a loss. Think of it this way, the Take Profit is the max and the Trip Stop is the min. Some where in-between min and max, you will take profit when the price reverses direction and tries to moves away from your Take Profit.
The way it will work for LordDave’s idea is that the order will close if the price drops back to a certain level not when it reverses. A lot more work to do but could yield more profit.

Alright, I’m just going to just throw this up here for you tweekers to play with. It’s not fully tested but it seems to be working. More buttons to push sorta speak. I changed the name of TripStop to TripFlag and you should be able to turn it off and on. You’ll be able to turn off end of month closures (I hope), and change the trip points of the DeMarker and WPR. To understand the trip points, go to the Meta Editor and read the help file. Look under trade indicators. If you do, you will probably figure out that the settings in the WPR are at 0.80 and 0.20 instead of 80 and 20. It’s just the way someone else put this together but it does work. Original settings for WPR are 0.75 and 0.25
Anyways, it may be awhile before I get back here, so happy Holidays.

Nice work mate. I enabled Rev1 on my $100 demo and 2 seconds later it made a trade that closed up $2.15 within 2 minutes!
Unfortunatly this is a standard demo account, so it is JUST a little bit over leveraged, anyways will test more with your new one.

This is similar to C language.
Also a good place to start besides MQL4.com (http://www.mql4.com/) would be firing up the MetaEditor on your MetaTrader and read the help files. Also google learning C++ to find you a site that teaches programming basics, that is if you’re starting from scratch.

I just finished scheme class and I will start learning C (not C++) next term. I guess I need to work hard on that class.

Learning C will be just excellent. You need to understand the basics like how to declare variables and functions, operators like “if, else” and “for”. By the end of your class, you should be ready to start fiddling around with EA code. But why wait, get out there and start coding. Start poking around in the MetaEditor!!

Ya, I started forward testing my settings and I’m not impressed. Think I’ll play around with them a little more. Obviously, back testing dose not give you a clear picture of what it will do trading real time.
Just to give you a little background on this EA, it started out to be very much like first FAP. It uses the same common indicators that come freely with MetaTrader in very much the same way. But, you can change a few more variables on the indicators, you got the scalping feature, you can turn off the end of month thing, a couple of bogus input variables removed, and no annoying key crap - Oh, and a better menu. Still, more work can be and will be done to it.
For those who want to give it a crack, here is the code. The daily-pivot S/R is not in use yet, so you can ignore that. When I get a chance, I’ll comment up the program a little better so it’s a bit more understandable.

Starting forward demo testing with my risk and keeping tp at 15. Looks good!
I might try this out live later on... One thing I noticed with Faps, when it hits a trend (and closes a trade in under 2 min) the next trade (if there is one in under -say 10minutes is always a winner too (on my stop time of 20), but the third trade seems to be a dice roll...
Any chance we can get the second trade to increase the lot size (we pick the sixe increase (like 10x:)), it'd be fun to try out-- of course we wouldn't want the fourth/sixth/eighth trades to increase (or get stuck in the double down loop).
when I get a chance to sit infront of the computer - I up the LLR to 20-30 for one or two trades when the trend is good).

I would like to know if I need to change or adjust anything if I use Fxpro that has 5 digits after the point ? Or this Project_EA can automatically understand the brokers that have 4 digits and brokers that have 5 digits after the point?
Please explain.
By the way, is the Project_EA already complete or still need more improvement?
Thanks and regards,

Thanks to Egale. I know this is FAP but this works for EA3_Rev5 as well.
Q: I have a five digit broker. How do I adjust my settings so that FAP can perform on this broker's paltform?
A: You have to add a zero to the following inputs
Take profit
Stoploss
Trailingstop
Slippage
These settings are measured in pips so if you have a five digit broker Place a zero after your desired settings so that FAP will understand the input.
example:
Four digit broker=eur/usd 1.3001
Five digit broker=eur/usd 1.30001

That is odd. I am sitting on a sell right now that is -89 pips, but I had 16 trades close for profit in a row.(+205 pips) If this latest sell closes for a loss it will be my first. Make sure that your max orders is at 1. That is the only thing that I can tell you except to double check that our settings are the same. If anyone out there is seeing good results with the settings that I posted holla back.
By the way, those are not my settings I got them from several different earlier posts. I just posted them all together.

Does project EA have a Moving average cross filter?
IT doesnt trade as often as FAP. I love FAP but if it had a Moving average cross on the m15 to filter out support and resistance trades that would be great!

Real easy to do. The MA indicator all ready has that. I just had it defaulted to Daily.
The EA does have a moving average. Check at the bottom of menu.
I've added Chart selection, default at Daily = 1440.
Changes:
aaa renamed to PeriodDeM
aat renamed to ChartDeM
bbb renamed to PeriodWPR
bbt renamed to ChartWPR
added ChartMa
Chart times are in minutes 1, 15, Daily = 1440 and so on
0 = current Chart
Edit:
Constant Value Description
1 = 1 minute.
5 = 5 minutes.
15 = 15 minutes.
30 = 30 minutes.
60 = 1 hour.
240 = 4 hour.
1440 = Daily.
10080 = Weekly.
43200 = Monthly.
0 (zero) 0 Timeframe used on the chart.

Hey Zan, sorry I havent popped my head in here for a bit, have been busy pulling servers out at work (hehe new toys for me! :P ).
The forward testing of this EA is working well, account is currently at 184.69 which isnt bad since I created the demo on the 17th!
Anyway, I will post a Detailed Statement once it hits $200.00, should only be 1 or 2 more days now.
I have been running this for the past couple of days (I know shouldn't be trading...BLAH... BLAH... BLAH...) so far it's out performing the FAPS on my other acct in number of winning trades--whick is weird because last week when both were running FAPS--the other acct was the winner, but it must not be perfect yet cause I'm not rich...LOL...

WARNING: This may be a little boring for some!
Ok, this will be an quick overview of the indicators that are used in Project EA and FAP. First there are 5 indicators – Alligator, Moving Average, DeMarker, William’s Percent Range and Fractals. The Alligator and MA are used to check market trend on the Daily chart (MA) and market activity trend (Alligator). The WPR is used to check to see if the market has been over bought or sold. And last, Fractals and Demarker command somewhat the entry point and type of trade.
Code snip 1
int TradeSignalOpenOrder() {
if (UseMAControl == 0) { < Are you going to use MA 0 = no
if (!IsGatorActiveUp()) return (0); < If no MA and If the Gator is not actively up Return nothing
} else { < OK so your going to use MA
Note: we have two MAs set up on the Daily Char (see code snip 2)
if (g_ima_268 < g_ima_276) {< compare the two MAs. Who’s on top?
if (!IsGatorActiveUp()) return (0); If gator is not actively up then stop
} else {
if (g_ima_268 > g_ima_276) {< compare the two MAs. Who’s on top?
if (!IsGatorActiveDown()) return (0); If gator is not actively Down then stop
} else
if (!IsGatorActiveUp() && !IsGatorActiveDown()) return (0); < Gator closed then stop
}
}
if (WasWPROverBuy() || WasWPROverSell()) return (0);
if (IsFractalLower() && WasDemarkerHigh()) return (1); 1 = buy
if (IsFractalUpper() && WasDemarkerLow()) return (-1);-1 = sell
return (0);
}
Code snip 2
if (UseMAControl != 0) { < if your answer to the use of MA is not no
g_ima_268 = iMA(NULL, PERIOD_D1, PeriodMA, 0, TypeMA_0_3, PriceMA_0_6, 1); < shift this MA by 1
g_ima_276 = iMA(NULL, PERIOD_D1, PeriodMA, 0, TypeMA_0_3, PriceMA_0_6, 0); < no shift
}
PERIOD_D1 is a standard constant which represents 1440 minutes. In Rev6 this is replaced with a variable which can be modified by the user
EA4 is in the works but I have a small delay.

Hi Zanwonton,
I have a few questions about your EA.
1) Which currency pairs can be used by this EA, AND which ones do you recommend and which ones should be avoid at all cost?
EX: EUR/USD, EUR/GBP, EUR/CHF, EUR/CAD, EUR/JPY, GBP/USD, GBP/JPY, GBP/CHF, USD/JPY, USD/CHF, USD/CAD, AUD/USD.
2) What is the best Timeframe that should be used on the Long-Term Strategy and Scalper Strategy?
EX: M1, M5, M15, M30, H1, H4.
3) What is the best SWTH, SWTM, EWTH, EWTM for each recommend currency pairs (Q #1)?
EX: Tokyo 7pm - 4am, London 3am - 12 noon, New York 8am - 4pm.
StartWork Timehour = 19 = 3 = 8 = 19
StartWork TimeMin = 0 = 0 = 0 = 0
EndWork TimeHour = 4 = 12 = 16 = 12
EndWork TimeMin = 0 = 0 = 0 = 0
4) What about the GMT offset, broker's time (marketwatch), and the Daylight Savings Time for this EA?
5) How does the TripLevel and TrailingStop work, and what is the min. settings?
EX: TripLevel = 1.0, TrailingStop = 2.0.
6) I know this question may sounds strange but can you leave the TakeProfit at zero and let the TripLevel or the TrailingStop close the trade?
EX: If the TakeProfit is 15.0, and the market moves 300 or more. you could lose out on 285 plus PIPS.
7) Should I leave the StopLoss at zero or will the EA automatically close the losing trade?
8) If Lots is set at zero what will the lot size be?
EX: For safe trading and scalping.
9) Can you run this EA and FAP Turbo side by side?
EX: both trading EUR/USD at the same time.
10) If I make a manual trade will the EA take over it whether or not it's the same currency pair?
11) Can you add a Print on Chart Feature?
EX: In a small separate Indicator window below chart.
12) When you update your EA can you add a text file, Templates, and set files for each currency pairs too?
EX: Q&A, Time, Setting for Long-Term Strategy and scalping setting, comments and so on.
13) When testing/backtesting your EA, I had problem on all time frames, but I had great results on the H4?
But when I tried it no trades. Worked great M5 chart.
14) What is the best settings to use for safe trading?
EX: Long-Term Strategy and scalping.

Uhhh??? This is a Beta program and it is not optimized.
But let me give it a shot at giving you some direction. As you start reading threads for other EAs, you’ll find that there is quit a discussion on what settings should be used on what pair at what times and it depends on what your trading strategy is. So it’s quite a daunting task for anyone to nail it down as you asked. I don’t claim to have anything nail down. What I’m trying to do is give you and me the upper hand by giving you tools that work and make them flexible enough to be adaptive to any situation – that’s my goal.
Now let’s go through your list.
1. It can be used on any pair that your broker offers. I would suggest the EUR/USD but loaddave is doing great on the aud/usd. It helps a lot to know the pair that you are going to trade. Know when the trading times are and watch what news can affect it.
2. This is a little bit complicated with Rev5 and Rev6. Setting the EA to a chart fixes the Fractals and Alligator indicator to that chart but you can adjust the other indicators to look at other charts in the settings. Trend Indicators should set to higher timeframes while entry indicators are set to (IMHO) 1M and 5M.
3. & 4. This EA does not have a built in trading system like Turbo; which frees you up to come up with your own. You should trade during market hours and not at the very beginning or at the very end. Some pages back, I uploaded a nifty indicator which shows market hours. I would suggest watching or manually trading on a pair before you set loose any EA on it.
5. I’ll be referring to Rev6.
They are two different automatic trading rules (if this happens then do this)
Trailing Stop: the trailing stop kicks in when the trade is in profit and updates the stoplose so as not to incur any lose but trails the price to increase profit. Grate for long term strategies.
Trip Flag: The trip flag sets a minimum price. When the trade exceeds that price the flag is set (or in other words, the trap is set). The EA is then ready to close on the first reversal of price that is detected.
6 Yes, but not recommended. Orders are closed by the EA for Trailing Stop and Trip Flag. If for some reason your computer goes down, there is nothing to close your order and how knows what will happen. Unless you are there watching.
7. At this time there is only one trading rule that will close out losing trades, CloseEndMonth.
It is a mater of opinion; I would like to have a tight stoplose but back testing shows a very loose one is more profitable. If you find yourself in a loosing trade you have a choice of closing the trade and cutting your loses or letting it ride and hedging.
8. If you set your lots to zero, the lot size will be dependent on what you set your LotsRiskReducer at and how much your balance is at. The higher the LRR is the sooner your lots will increase according to price.
9. Yes, but never ever never on the same chart. Always for any EA, give it its own chart set at whatever pair you want. Also, but not absolutely necessary, set the magic number to something different for each EA.
10. Not at this time, but we (there are more programmers now working on this project now, thanks to forexhero) are going to be working in something like that.
11. Yes, it’s called a comment in the mlq4 language. What information do you want to display?
12. I’ll be looking forward for your contributions to this project.
13. Trial and error! But keep in mind that backtesting does not give you a clear picture of what an EA will do in a forward test. For example: with FXDD, I can set the TripFlag to 1 in a backtest and it will work but in a forward test FXDD blocks any trades under 4.
14. Basically this is gambling, there is no such thing as safe. The idea is to win more than you will lose and you will lose. The strategies are wide and varied on this subject with EAs and Manual trading, and no EA or settings will consistently give you winning results. You should be first a manual trader that enhances their profits with an EA.
Look here for more answers in their forums.

Hey Zan, not sure where you thought I was trading the Aussie. My results are coming from EUR/USD! M5 timeframe

Dynamic Stop loss.
The Ichimoku cloud.
I thought about this a while back and thought I'd let the coders play with it.
Instead of a fixed stop loss, after a trade is open for 24 hours and it has not taken profit the ichimoku cloud is used to kill it.
The cloud is a support/resistance zone. When price touches it the trade is killed.
This minimizes the amount of pips lost.
you could make the time frame adjustable from 1 hour to as long as you wish.
The cloud could also be used for filtering out bad trades. When price is inside the cloud, no trades are opened because price is near support/resistance.

I am working on an idea that uses an autopivot indicator. Check it out and see if this might be used for what you sugest.

I only know A tiny bit of code but from what I read it looks as though you are drawing support and resistance and pivot lines on the chart but I did not see anyhting about the EA using these for filters or stops. Would the ichimoku cloud be easier to code since it is only the space between two moving Averages?
Don't want to wreck your train of thought. Either idea could work. Just thought the cloud would be easier to code. But then again I dont know how to code.

Hi Zanwonton
I want to test your EA but it doesn't work on my brokr (FxPro) I keep getting this error:
2009.01.02 12:30:35 2008.11.28 23:59 Project_EA3_rev5 EURUSD,M5: Alligator Jaw error = 138; desc = requote
Can you fix that maybe?

It's like that in backtesting and maybe in December. I have tested with other EAs and it'll drop like a stone too at the end.
I ran the same test and killed all the profits in the end.

Quick update here. My Demo account with GoMarkets got closed out after the 15 day time period expired. So I have made a new demo with them.
The balance is now $199 (The old demo closed out at 199.58), and I have the Leverage set at 1:200.

Hi LordDave,
I saw the live statement of your forward-testing on Project_EA of
Zanwonton is very impressive.
Could you please tell which version of Project_EA you are using now? and what is the settings that you are using?
I tried default settings, but it did not work properly. So, I need to see your settings to know where I am getting it wrong.
By the way, is it on live mini account, or demo account? on which broker's platform?
Thanks for your sharing.
Best regards,

Hi all, Im just wondering is anyone has had any trades with version 6 as yet. Ive been running V6 for the last 2 days with Lorddaves settings and it just seems to be sitting there - I may go back to V5 if nothing much happens over the next week or so. :)
EDIT:Doh I just saw Jefe's post, LOL, will give that a go and see where we are at.

Pretty sure that this EA is set to not trade after the 350th day of the year and not before the 7th day of the year. Trades should start again tomorrow.

Can someone post settings for 5 digit broker for rev6 please? It keep blowing my account on EURUSD M5...:(
Harre
01-08-2009, 04:48 PM
I've just edited Lords settings to try to make it compatible with 5 digit broker by adding a zero to:
TakeProfit - 150
Trailing stop - 50
Slipage - 30
StopLoss - kept 0 for now
I also added a 0 to TripLevel to make it 50 but not sure if that's correct or not
Will give this a go on demo tonight and I'll try 4 pairs just to see if I can get some action with it.

Is this error going to stop this from trading?
2009.01.08 19:52:24 Project_EA3_rev6 EURUSD,M5: Alligator Jaw error = 4066; desc = requested history data in update state
Or is this one I can ignore?

EDIT: Ok, I figured out what caused this on this EA. I had the Chart that the EA was attached to at M5, but the ChartMA in the EA itself was 1440. Once I changed the chart to D1, it started trading right away.

Totally agree. EA without SL is not an option for me and the "EA graveyard" is full of examples why a system like that doesn't work in the long run. However, there may be some internal built in flags that trigger an exit even if there's no explicit SL set.
Last night was poor for me. I tried rev 6 with settings mainly like Lordave's but changed them to match a 5 digit broker. Still not sure about the trailing flag setting or whatever it was called. Anyway, I ran it on the 4 pairs maxfactor did, on 5 minutes charts and think I had 1 winning trade, the rest of them losses. Woke up to find 3 floating losses that I closed manually.
We need proper 5 digit broker settings to try it out with and more forward testers and optimizers to step forward!

Yes good result but would be more helpful to see or attach settings, broker info etc. With such an incredible discrepancy in results where some people get 90% losing trades and some people haven't even had a loss yet we might as well be using different EA's.
This is not a results thread, although I definitely don't mind seeing amazing results, especially live. We need back and forward tests and optimization.

Remember this is demo I am testing it on Interbankfx. I have not taken the risk throwing this on my live account as yet.

Yesterday I moved this over to an FXDD Live account with $250 dollars in it. I ran it last night through this morning.
I turned the EA off this morning when I woke up, because the US labor report comes out today and I am trading the EURUSD pair, plus I was a little worried about opening a trade on a Friday that could stay open over the weekend. I would like to see a similar "tradefriday" setting in this EA that FAPT has.
Last night it made 6 trades all winners for a total profit of $50 dollars (roughly). (I am trading .1 lot size. I know it is risky, but this isn't my main forex account, this was an account I opened with profits from FAPTurbo to test this EA out with.
Anyway, I just wanted you guys to know that this may blow out my account, but I am trading it with LordDave's settings, on a live account. The scary part is because it is only $250 and I use .1 lot sizes, a large drawdown could hit my margin. But nothing ventured, nothing gained I always say :)
EDIT: Oh one other thing. I run this EA on the EURUSD D1 chart. Is this the best setting to try this thing on? If I change the chart to M5, I get the error you see from me a few posts above. So I just run it on the D1 chart. Do I need to make any changes to the EA to allow it to work on a different time frame chart?

Is this EA better than the FAPTurbo?
It's better then regular FAPS, at least according to my acct balances...LOL...
The FAP turbo scalper is a different strategy all together, and works very well.

Is this EA better than the FAPTurbo?
My FAPTurbo is so far the winner between EA's. The problem is it trades 3 days a week for 4 hours a day.
Whereas this one (which is a BETA build and might lose all my money some day) trades 5 days a week 24 hours a day if you let it. The one issue you have to watch is there is no stoploss by default. So if you do not have enough money in your account to take a huge drawdown waiting for it to come back up, without hitting a margin call, it can take you out of the game.

Well that's not quite true :-) FAPT trades 4 days a week for 5 hours a day, at least for me :-) But I am also looking for an EA to run daily...

What would you recommend for a stop loss for this EA? I want to try it on an account when trading restarts on monday.

Put an SL that you're comfortable with. Nobody has optimised it yet so no idea what SL gives the best result. I put a 60 pip SL in myself but haven't run it more than a couple of hours late last night so no idea what the result will be.

Hello all,
wich is the lates vers. of this EA? Somone say it's vers. 6 but i couldnt fine it in the Thread. Can please somone post the latest version and the .set file used?
thanks a lot
I set a sl of 180, A couple of times it's gone to minus 150pips before swing back the other way...
Ideally I think your SL should be part of your LLR so that risk is really 1-2-5-10% of your acct. (an actual loss would be that amount) "I think" this is built into the Martin EA.
For example
Acct balance*LLR % divided by Your SL Squared
(AB*LLR%)/SL^2
For example"
Acct Balance $600
LLR is 10%
SL of 60pips
Lot size =
(600*.10)/60^2
60/3600
Lot size = .016
or .02
If you follow faps (or rev 6) and set your sl to 180 with a .02 lot size on a $600 acct your really risking 60% of your acct...
So it really becomes a balancing act between Sl and Profit.
I built this in xlsx, but saved it in xls--not sure how it'll look but the fields will be the same...
OH GREAT NO XLS attachment support.... I guess PM me with your email and I'll send it to anyone...
If your current balance is $2K with an SL of 180 and trading a .01 Lot size--your risking 18% of your account...
Run multiple orders are your are expotentially your risk, on a small account you'll run out of margin before you hit a 2x180SL though...

Hold on a second there..I'll add xlsx and xls extension support. I'd say 300 Kbytes should be enough for the average file.
Aiiight...try again with the attachment. Alternative you can do as Pavarotti suggest and zip it up and upload it in that attachment format. This is actually preferred as it saves a bit of space.
Anyways...let me know if you run into any problems with attachments.

You're doing nothing wrong, not sure what you expect? EA is not finished, there are no agreed settings, no optimisation. If you post your settings at least we know what doesn't work in back tests. Then change something and try again :-)
Thanks alan!!!

Just popped in real quick!
Your using Rev1 go back in the thread and find Rev5.
Wow, I'm using FXDD too and I'm not getting that error. Keep in mind though that FXDD does not alow trades under 4 pips. Do you have your Triplevel set to at least 5?
Thanks to Egale. I know this is FAP but this works for EA3_Rev5 as well.
Q: I have a five digit broker. How do I adjust my settings so that FAP can perform on this broker's paltform?
A: You have to add a zero to the following inputs
Take profit
Stoploss
Trailingstop
Slippage
These settings are measured in pips so if you have a five digit broker Place a zero after your desired settings so that FAP will understand the input.
example:
Four digit broker=eur/usd 1.3001
Five digit broker=eur/usd 1.30001
*** Untill we are all rich Project_EA will not be finished ***
For those who would like to work wih me on this or would like to contribute to the project PM me for my email address.
I'm using FxPro and still getting the same error message. I'v added 0 to the TripLevel and I'm waiting to see what happens with Lorddaves' settings
It has been trading though despite the error message 5 wins, one BIG loss (something to do with the 0 StopLoss I guess)
OmegaFire

I've just edited Lords settings to try to make it compatible with 5 digit broker by adding a zero to:
TakeProfit - 150
Trailing stop - 50
Slipage - 30
StopLoss - kept 0 for now
I also added a 0 to TripLevel to make it 50 but not sure if that's correct or not
Will give this a go on demo tonight and I'll try 4 pairs just to see if I can get some action with it.
Did exactly same thing. any better results

Ok sorry for not quite understanding this but you're saying the EA is not working with eur/gbp cause it had a big loss on that pair?
Hmm, damn then I need to shut off that pair on FAPT straight away cause I had a full SL in December... Oh, and I also need to shut down FAPT on eurchf cause there were that SL last Monday... Oh damn, I also have to shut down FAPT on usdcad cause on Thursday night it hit the SL too :eek: :eek:
Oh, hold on, my account is still up over 20%... Maybe the FAPT is working despite hitting a number of big losses...
However, you are right it isn't optimised if that's what you mean. And it's not finished from what I understand although I haven't seen any input from the devs for a while...

:-P Glad you didn't take offense maxfactor :-)
What i tried to get across is that:
1. This EA is not finished or optimised yet!
2. One loss on one pair means....pretty much nothing. Since the loss is big it's an indication that this EA needs a stop loss level (I personally would never use an EA without it). Continuing to forward test on loads of different pairs will give us some kind of indication on what pairs work best with this EA, but only an indication since past results never ever guarantee what's coming next.
3. Let's try to create some kind of template for people who post here so the results are comparable. Now some people just post a bunch of trades and then add a smiley or sad icon after depending on how it went. not much use since we don't know settings, broker, version etc.

That is true and thats why we have to make notes on these so this ea can be perfected. I am still using lorddave settings but I know some of you may want to know my exact set file so I am going to post it.

In addition to all your currency pairs, I'v also added EURCHF and I'm still keeping EURGBP, both with StopLoss of 100 pips. Other currency pairs have a SL of 70 pips. Infact I'm thinking of doing away with FAPT.

I set up this EA V6 yesterday on an IBFX demo account with a balance of $350 and so far it has made NO trades. I noticed in the Experts tab that I'm getting a message "Project_EA3_rev6 USDCHF, M5: No money to open more orders. Lot=1 Free Margin = 350 Balance = 350"
I am using the same settings as maxfactor posted in his *.set file.
So, Lot = 1... I suppose this is a Full lot on a regular account and since my demo balance is only $350 then maybe that's a problem. In my settings I've also tried Lots = 0.1 but I still get the same message from above.
Anyone have any ideas about this.

Use the lots risk reducer which is the money managment tool. With such small deposit you should not be using so much lots!
Lots 0.0 Lot Risk Reducer 4.0. On my fxdd I am trading 0.01 now instead of 0.1 let the ea do the Money Management.

I would definetly prefer GBP/JPY over EUR/USD 5 min. I have both pairs on the same settings but GBP/GPY kicks ass

HI Guys
Just been reading all the previous posts and install project EA rev5 on my fxpro demo account with some remarkable results. This may sound a silly question but i'm new to all expert advisor thing but what does all the info in the set file mean eg. lot, LRR, aaa and period MA.
If someone could explain I would be most appreciative.

Its a kick ass pair along with GU because they are volatile. I must caution everyone with using a very low lot especially with these risky pairs. Also its not a set and forget ea. you have to monitor it to change the settings and it will do its job. earlier this morning i had it at long and short when it started to go up i set it to longs only then as it dropped fast i set it to short only and it pumped in the pips! :D
If i was to post the trades it did today it could not hold on this page. :D

Double click on the ea smiley face then you will see common:long and short. From there you can change the settings. :cool:
By the way I am accessing my pc from work remotely via logmein to monitor my trades.:D

I'm using your set file but I changed the ChartMA to 60, I want to see what happens if we use a lower timeframe for this - maybe quicker to respond to trend changes.
I work during the driving out to clients so it's virtually impossible to keep an eye on the EA

Maybe we should move this over to the new forums have have the testing better organized.
Currently everyone is using whatever settings they feel is best and I am not to sure if this is the best way to test this EA effectively.
If we can get about 3 or five people to test this based on maxfactors set file with small changes on every demo account and post your trades everyday we might have a much clearer picture of which settings to use after a while
For example I am testing theChartMa on 60 min chart, someone else can try 4 hours.
There is also ChartDeM and ChartWPR that might make quite a difference

FWIW, I keep my seetings long and short, with my MA at 34 It performs pretty well, when I use 21 (which on my other acct I do) 21 always gets stuck on these weird hangers that I don't typically get on 34. 21 gets a lot more action, esp on the trends, but I can't be infront of the computer all day so I have to keep it manageable for me.
Also I accidently set my SL to 50 yesterday... pretty ugly results...
Also if i'm reading the chart correctly, sell the eur/usd at 1.3265, probably ride it down 1.3152...

Maxfactor,
What timeframe are using? It looked like you were using the Daily chart in your settings file that you uploaded, but you mentioned the 5 minute chart in one of your postings. If you change timeframes, don't you have to change the chartma setting as well?
Thanks for sharing :)

Well, if things are just not confusing enough – here is Project_EA4. I have added a RSI Filter and a few more settings. It’s more flexible but maybe more confusing to use. Anyways, enjoy and good luck!!
I have included some set files and some notes to help those just starting out.
If you want to see something cool – set back test to visual mode to watch the LongGame trailing stop work.
Now for the disclaimer:
This is not the goose that lays the golden eggs
It does not take in consideration of market news forces.
This is not a hands free EA – none are!!
You should use this as a tool to help you trade.
This is beta – it has been tested but just on FXDD.

Hey Zan,
I have this running on my FXDD account with microlots of .01 trading. I noticed that once it went into profit, I was hitting a alligator 129 - invalid price error.
I am using your scalper .set file and am attached to eurusd 5m chart.
Do you know if there is some setting i have to change? I am not sure what it is trying to do at the time. It seems like it is close to the T/P price at the time, so it might be trying to change the price of s/l at the time. Not sure though. any ideas.

LOL – trust me, it drives me crazy to read about any errors; especially when the user is using the same broker that I’m using. Well, the only thing I can tell you is to make sure the TripLevel is set higher than 4. I think FXDD blocks trades lower than that. You may be getting some delays in the trade signal which could be compensated by raising the trip level higher.
The TripFlag is a very simple program logic. I says – when the price passes a certain point it will close the trade on the first reversal in price. If the program errors, then I don’t think it recovers. I’m going to have to look into this and figure this out. Oh ya, it does nothing to the S/L or T/P. The longGame.set on the other hand has everything to do with the trailing stop.
I do all of my work on a FXDD mini, so I don’t know if there is a problem with the program working on a micro or not. I will open a micro account up sooner rather than later because I have a couple of hundred ready to be gambled – still less than doing Vegas. ;)
You will probably want to set the scalper.set to the 1M chart. I configured it to work solely on this chart. But again, I have not taken the time to see how these setting will work on the other charts. Keep in mind these set files are something to start with. I fiddled with them for so long and when I got tired I said, “Presto – Finished!!!”
Just one more thing, I forgot to remove some programming stuff from the EA. It just helps me nail down what the program is doing by popping up an alert box with info. Just ignore it for right now, I will post an edited EA4. It’s harmless and does nothing for the trade, sorry.

If somebody gets this working with a 5 quote broker plz post set file here. I'll give it a go myself but wasn't very successful with rev6 so don't hold too much hope...
Edit: I've just added a 0 to TP, SL, the trip things slippage etc and at least not getting errors... /Edit
Edit2: Hmm but the backtests are really poor :-( Running scalper on M1 and the longgame on H1 with settings only modified to work with 5 quote broker. Think we need a better expert in to replace me in testing this thing. /Edit2

Getting nowhere with this :( Tried optimisation but didn't help and still getting really poor results. More importantly I'm getting very few trades. Maxfactor seems to have some kind of special setting that makes his version trade all the time :D
I don't get it. I've got M1 as my time frame for the scalper. Unless I change the Chart MA to 1 I get errors. I've changed the start and stop hour to 0 and 23.59 to get as much action as possible but failing miserably.
I don't think this EA works with 5 quote brokers, until proven differently...
(edit: Ok something definitely wrong. When I do an optimisation from 3 Nov to todays date I get 57 trades and that's it?!? /edit)

Did a modified backtest from 2000 and came up with 280 million with a deposit $10,000 of course there was some huge drawdowns. I am constantly doing backtest now with small deposits of $500. I will let you guys know if those tests were successful.
Update: Zan never mind the other pairs have started the trade now.:)

Yes I have three sell floaters now.
I have three floaters as well with this newest...LOL..
However, I'm still running rev 6 on two other accts (I have 3 live accts) and they don't have floats, one acct just opened a buy and sell within a min or so...PERFECT HEDGE :)
I feel out in the dark about this scalper thing though....

There is a bug in the way Project_EA handles more than one order. Please stop using the EA or limit MaxOrders to 1. I will soon have an update; I just need to test it a little more to make sure. :(
Again, back testing is not a good way to test an EA!!!!! :(:confused::mad:

Seriously, have you been going through this thread post for post and looking at the dates? Zan did post a updated EA4. It could have been called version 7 of anything. How am I to be blamed? I never force anyone to throw it on their accounts I simply test and test and show you guys what my results are like. I also recall Zan stating a disclaimer.
Zan made a post of an updated EA4 along with a scalper set and longterm set file which is in the zip file.Let me quote back his post for anyone who is confused.:rolleyes:
Well, if things are just not confusing enough – here is Project_EA4. I have added a RSI Filter and a few more settings. It’s more flexible but maybe more confusing to use. Anyways, enjoy and good luck!!
I have included some set files and some notes to help those just starting out.
If you want to see something cool – set back test to visual mode to watch the LongGame trailing stop work.
Now for the disclaimer:
This is not the goose that lays the golden eggs
It does not take in consideration of market news forces.
This is not a hands free EA – none are!!
You should use this as a tool to help you trade.
This is beta – it has been tested but just on FXDD
Link of Zan's latest EA posted and please not the date. (http://www.forexautopilotforum.com/showpost.php?p=13383&postcount=200)
I will post some of my results right now and in the future just observe this thread and stay silent as I dont want anyone else blaming me. :p :)

FYI: I've been testing Version EA6 all week on the EUR/CHF and USD/CAD only on an IBFX Demo account with a starting balance of $350. After only 4 days of trading, my account balance is $425.64 (Had almost $500 balance) and I've manually closed about $157 in losing trades (4 trades to be exact).
I've used Maxfactor's settings from Post #171 (http://www.forexautopilotforum.com/showpost.php?p=12726&postcount=171)
I'm very pleased with these results and plan on using this on my live account soon.
I'm now interested in trading the updated EA4 on EUR/USD so keep posting your results.

I think there needs to be some support/resistance logic in this EA. It was doing good in GBP/JPY till it placed a sell order at 129.28. Which is very close to the lowest point way of 129.32 way back in 1994 and is unlikely to be breached so easily.
I'll try and have a go at it this weekend and see if I can come up with anything.. there should already be something out there for this and also to determine what kind of market it is so that the system places only sell or buy trades automatically.

GAH! This is so frustrating :-( Surely the results should be exactly the same with a 5 digit broker as long as the settings are adjusted with an extra 0 where needed?!? I just get lousy results no matter what settings I try :-(

1). Is the latest "project_ea4" another EA or just an update from all the previous ones?
2). Which is more profitable: Long or Scalping?
3). I see this has potential, making many profitable trades in 24h. Maybe better than FAP or FAPTurbo as FAPTurbo operates in a narrow timeframe.
4). Which settings is the best? I see maxfactor has two good settings, one default, one from lorddave. Or default?
5). I like EAs which open and close trades frequently and profitably all day long and dont leave me hanging for days
6). Ive heard about EA Sigma and AME Cross Trader (unbelievable results in one week in the recent ea championship). What do you guys think of them?
Thanks

Hi Zanwonton,
Thank you for responding to my questions and the updating of your EA (Project_EA4) with set files and notes.
I love this EA for it's flexibility and the ability to use it on any currency pairs, Timeframe and with some new options.
And this makes it a truly a great EA (And yes I know This is still in Beta). I still hope you will continue to improve and keep adding more options to it.
But I have a few more Questions for you.
1) When the trade exceeds the price and the flag is set (TripFlag=true; TripLevel=5.0) will it update the stoploss?
2) On the first reversal of price that is detected, when will the EA close the trade?
3) When the trade exceeds the StopTime will the EA continue to watch over it?
If not will the EA update the StopLoss and add a TrailingStop before it's time is up?
4) If Day of Week is set only (DoWStart=1; DoWEnd=4) when will the EA start and stop trading?
Thanks again Zanwonton for a GREAT JOB!!!!
Richzilla :)

Thanks Zanwonton for all your hard work.
I have been using your Project EA with decent results forward testing on demo using various pairs.
I carried out a few back tests as well with mixed results. Varying TP’s and SL’s.
Has anybody got some decent profitable settings and which pairs to trade on?
If required, I could run some optimisations on my VPS for various pairs but I only have access to this midday and after work..
Possible Project Ea additions:
1.) Would it be possible to add a hedging capability into the Ea.?
(With a true / false switch and set at x pips).
2.) I was also thinking of a stepped TP.
ie TP at x pips close out …..% of position
TP at x pips close out another … .% of position.
TP at x pips close out another …..% of position and let the rest run.
Please let me know on your thoughts?

I have been using rev.1 for the last several weeks and just wanted to get in here and thank those responsible for this project! I now see people are using rev.6.?. Is the “bug” fixed? What settings should I use? I see a zip file from Maxfactor but don’t know where to load it. Any help with the settings for rev.6 would be greatly appreciated, (in newbie form). THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL THE WORK AND TESTING!!!!!!

The bug is in EA_4, --NOT in EA3_5 or EA3_6.
I use EA_6 with safeguard, use an llr of less then 1 though-so the hedge trade doesn't blow your account.
To load a .set file--copy it to your c:/metatrader/program files/experts/preset file
Then when you load up your EA to the chart , A window will appear with common/input tab, click the load button to the right of the inputs window, and pick a .set file--or you can create your own and save them there.
That's an excellent suggestion. So system developers and indicator/EA posters listen up :) Please edit/update the first post - it definitely makes it more convenient and organized as forexample pointed out.

When you say "llr" is that the Lots Risk Reductor? If so, do you use say a .5 or what? Thanks again for the help.

Yes, LLR= Lots Risk Reducer. Basically the percentage of your acct that you want to trade with. By using this method, the EA will decrease your lot size a little bit as your acct shrinks. (and increase if your acct grows)
In this program if you have a $1000 FXDD acct and enter an LLR of 1 it will trade with $10.00 (or a .10 Lot size). when your acct drops to $900 it'll use .09 as a lot size.

Attached is one day from trading with zanwonton. The one 1.0 lot trade of AUD/USD was a manual. The rest are through the EA. I am using the slightly older v 6 with maxfactors preset, however I have used set lot sizes of 0.3 for most pairs and 0.5 for EURUSD and USDJPY. These are nano lots! This is important to understand. The totals listed are in pennies. So 100 is $1. So basically I made $30 using nanolots. IF you use very tiny lots you can make a fortune. Sometimes I have huge drawdowns (think 100-200 pips) to make 75 cents. But since so many orders are going on at once i can rake in the 50-75 cents at a time. Also since it is so small I don't have to stress about the huge drawdowns and worry about my margin getting hit. My prior day had similar results to this chart, but I added a lot of manual trades that day and thought it would be confusing to look at. I would say since Monday it has made me $60. Pretty damn good for nanolots! When I make a bit more i'll change to 0.4 and 0.6, and gradually inch them up. The key is to always be comfortable enough to handle the large drawdowns. However there are a fair amount of quick strikes as well as you can se from the chart.
The EA does not seem to work entirely correctly in this version either (i.e. doesn't wait 30 mins like i set it to, and doesn't trade just five in total, trades 5 per chart I think). I use M5 on all the pairs.
I was using GBPJPY and GBPUSD, but I do not like this EA with GBP. The drawdowns can be too much to come back. I've closed a lot of them out and so I dropped the two and replaced them with USDCAD and USDJPY.
FYI, this is a live micro account with FXOpen.
EDIT: I should add last night and from the prior afternoon I had a bunch of drawdowns from that have yet to come around. So that my margin doesn't shrink further (still had $80 free) I have frozen the EA to let some of these turn into winners. If it looks like no reversal I may close out some of the bigger losses before the markets close. Currently my equity is at $135 and balance is at $165.

Oh Ya - I've updated the front page. Enjoy!

Well, I was waiting for this question.
OK, it’s rather simple – just right click the .ex4 file – select rename in the pop up box. Then type in your fav name just end it with .ex4 like “LittleMeanMoneyMaker.ex4” or what ever.
Please excuse my paranoia. :eek:
