understanding backtesting

hi all, i guess you will get this thread quite a few times. I'm learning a lot about faps auto pilot, and i hear many good and bad stories. I was also told if you do not know how to use it, it's useless. That's why i'm here, to learn how to use it. In my demo account, i can't seem to get in the +, always -250ish. I've tried different settings and what not, but oh well. I was wondering if someone could explain the importance of backtesting, and how does it affect anything. thanks, and sorry for my imcompetence, for now.

Back-testing says about itself - test the results of your strategy in the past.
So if you change any parameter in settings first of all,test it in a strategy tester and when you are sure that it works,Set it on your FAPS and see how you make profits without no active work :)
