forgive me how do you do a back test?

i'm very new to this, and i'm trying to figure things out. I have had some advice on backtesting, and how important it is, but i have no idea how to do a back test with the settings that are implemented. I don't know what to do, or how it should look like when it's finished, and i don't even know what steps i should take. I read everything, but backtesting was not explained to me. can anyone help? thank you kindly

ok, i've learned how to do a backtest, now do i just keep chnging my inputs until i profit? Because with my settings i have 189 loss.
