Unhappy Computer Speed

Computer speed means a lot. I'm going out to get something new and fast today. I watch my father's new computer execute trades so much better.

4Ghz at least is needed with a whole lot of ram...LOL

I'm only running a few 1.8Ghz laptops and a 1Ghz Tesk tooo slow to make money

Agreed Earl.

I've been running my backtests and trades on a 4.4 GHz Machine w/ 2 GB RAM and a 6 GHz machine w/ 4 GB RAM.

My 6 GHz is a screamer.... but now I'm looking at a Quad-Core...

As an IT professional and business owner, I'm smoking nothing.

Dual Opteron 2222 processors on a Tyan mobo my friend. Do a little research before hurling insults.

It also depends on what kind of internet service you get. DSL, cable, dial up(what's that?) all have different speeds. Cable is the fasted so far, I get 16bps which is pretty dang fast. So far Verizon Fios is still not available where I love but I'll be getting that as soon as it does.
Also, having a router hooked up will take away your internet speed. Maybe I just have a crappy router but whenever I disconnect it the speed triples.

Also distance from the broker as well, latency will certainly delay your entries/exits to the market.

Nope. When I run my tests it only utilizes one core. It'd be nice if it were

So Earl - what'd you pick up?
