You can pick up 2 Opteron CPUS and compatible mobo from TigerDirect.

It'll set you back about $1100 just for those parts however

Default Speed

I have both a quad core 2200 and a dual core 2400. Quad has 3 gigs of RAM while dual has 8 gigs of ram running 64-bit Vista. Backtesting is slightly faster on the dual core with more RAM but execution times should be much more dependent upon latency than on your computers performance unless you are very low on free resources before you open MT4. I notice no discernable difference between the two machines on anything other than back testing. One is connected to a work network, the other is on my home cable line with a 5mb/1mb speed rating.

Running on Quad with 4G RAM and 64-bit Vista. Backtesting is nice and fast AS LONG AS you have the visual bit switched off. Have not seen a speed problem even running 4 different MT apps from different brokers.

FXDD stalled today when the market went bezerk.

Yes, and that's a good idea..as HTML postings can be highly abused..I may see if I can get a vbulletin plugin that inserts youtube vids (even that can be abused) but anyways...

Guys you don't need that beefy of a machine to run FAPS or to do backtests. The only time you need a powerful machine is if your un a lot of simultaneous MT4 sessions with tons of EAs and tons of indicators (like yours truly).

I can't wait for the Core i7 cpus to go down in price cause I'm buying one of those babies ASAP.

Default Ram

I am wondering how much RAM you guys are using?

I am trading around the clock on my VPS provider Commercial Network Services. I am currently running 8 different instances of MT4 (trading different systems or the same system with different settings, some are live most are demo). In order to do that I need at least 1.2 Gb of Ram.

btw. Backtesting on CNS is soooooooo much faster. I can run a 4 year back test on tick data for a one minute chart in under an hour. On my apple macbook running paralells, the same test will take 4-5 hours.
