Default EURUSD Long Term Settings to Increase W/L Ratio?

Hullo fellow FAPS campers,

I have just started testing FAPS in last few days, noted a few comments re poor performance of EURUSD long term system. I got poor performance myself over this year with default settings, then I had a thought, the win/loss characteristics of Loss at 500 & Profit at 140 have W/L ratio skewed (in wrong direction), what if we try trading lesson 101 & make our winners > losers?

I just tried Loss at 350 & Take profit at 700 which seems to give a much better result, certainly fewer trades but more profitable. That was only change & haven't tried any others yet. I realise its a short test & just one year, I only raise this as a suggestion, perhaps someone can run a full test, it took quite a while on my machine just for 2008.

Cheers, Dave

Some here have suggested setting TP at 30 pips or roughly around that area...

Thanks Alan, I did find that post & tested but performance was very poor. I just tried out a larger Profit vs Stop & noted a significant improvement, wondered if anyone has tried same?

I have primarily been running the scalper so my experience with the long range is somewhat limited to one day and demo account on ODL...

Here's what I have noticed about the default settings:
- t/p seems to high, I want to get out at 50pips or so
- I've had to manually close some orders out to ensure I lock in at that gain

I'm going to try setting t/p at 50 and s/l at 350 and see what happens.

I run a similar setup on my old FAP EA. I found the most profitable setting was to let profits go out to 1000 pips , a stop loss of 500 and a trailing stop of 200.

Not many trades, but the ones that it does are huge. It just kinds of churns up and down until it catches a trend and then rides it out to 1000 pips or until the end of the month closes it out.

What I ended up doing was running one FAP with default setting to catch all the 20 pip moves and then also run the EA on another chart wiht 1000 pip settings.

I really like fap turbo when it came out as it also offered a large TP setting and paired it with a small scalper type setting.

I'm always testing stuff out. Right now, i'm running the old FAP, using "Eagle's" setting on my live account while the FAP Scalper runs at night. I don't' like that the fap turbo EA is not trading right now. I'd rather it took many tiny trades, rather than no trades at all.

I haven't had the chance to do it myself, but I'm curious to know if any of you attempted to optimize the settings for fapturbo (long term strategy)?

Actually I am running the optimization right now, already for two days, and I guess two more days to go. For last year of EURUSD M1 data from Alpari databank.

I am optimizing Stoploss, Take profit, Trailing stop, Max Orders and Critical days parameters.

Money management turned on in default settings, start capital = $5000

Preliminary results are here:
http://www.kvstudio.com/temp/Optimiz...tFTincomp2.htm

The list is sorted by the net profit.

I will post complete results after I have them.

Hi
It is a good idea to change your setting to Eagle's. Dec 11/12 I made $2000 with Eagle's setting only EURUSD. I am going to try on EURAUD, because his setting is working very good on auto pilot EURAUD, even its spread is pretty big .

Post Optimization finished

Ok, the optimization is finished!

Tested on alpari data on period 2007/11 to 2008/11 (+-)

Optimization results sorted by profit

Optimization results sorted by DD

I think interesting passes are:
#224 = largest profit with lowest DD (max 4 trades)
#157 = lowest DD, max 2 trades, tight SL (50 pips)
#302 = lowest DD, max 2 trades, large SL (450 pips)

Here are those passes in detail:
#224 - start balance $5000
#224 - start balance $1000
#224 - start balance $20000
#157 - start balance $5000
#302 - start balance $5000

I find very interesting than the absolute profit of #224 for start=$1000 almost matches the profit for start=$20000, which is a bit weird, also look at the DDs - it seems the EA behaves more risky for small accounts. The DD for the $1000 account is very very high, while for larger start balances it is ok.

I spent only little time playing with Hedging feature, but until now I did not find it interesting enough to play with it more or to optimize it. Maybe later.

Also, I am running #224 setting now on $10000 demo.

ENJOY and good luck!
